Here's What Happened, So It Doesn't Happen to You
Yesterday, my flight out of Denver was a rollercoaster of schedule changes. Originally set to depart at 1:00 PM, JetBlue sent a series of texts updating me on delays—first to 1:40, then 2:00, and finally 3:45 PM. With the last update pushing departure close to 4:00 PM, I assumed I had plenty of time to get to the airport. But then, out of the blue, the departure time was moved up to 2:20 PM!
Panic set in as I raced to return my rental car and make it to the airport. I arrived at the gate by 2:00 PM, only to be told that the flight had already closed, even though the plane was still on the runway. Frustrated, I learned that the next JetBlue flight to New York wouldn’t leave until much later that night, so I quickly booked a flight on United Airlines.
Still, I reached out to JetBlue to request a credit for the missed flight. Initially, they refused, explaining that it was my responsibility to be at the airport by the original scheduled time—something their texts had mentioned. In my rush, I hadn’t scrolled down far enough to read that part of the message.
Feeling frustrated, I decided to take one last shot and contacted the CEO of JetBlue. To my surprise, her office responded immediately. They not only refunded my airfare but also offered me a $100 credit for a future flight! I was blown away by their quick response and outstanding customer service.
Thanks to JetBlue, what started as a stressful experience turned into a reminder of why they remain one of my favorite airlines. Their commitment to their customers is unmatched, and they’ve earned my loyalty for good.
TUXEDO's Expert Travel Tip:
At TUXEDO, we often have clients traveling to the airport who request to reschedule their pickup time due to delayed flight departures. Sometimes, they ask us for advice, and here’s what we recommend: Even if your flight is delayed, it’s wise to stick with your original pickup time. Airlines can, and do, move up departure times at the last minute, and the last thing you want is to miss your flight because you arrived too late.
Should You Arrive On Time If Your Flight Is Delayed?
Absolutely. Even if your flight is delayed, it's crucial to arrive at the airport on time. Airlines can update delay times without much notice, possibly reducing the delay. Being at the airport ensures you won't miss your flight if it departs earlier than expected. Plus, you'll have extra time to navigate any last-minute changes, check luggage, and pass through security. Think of it as a chance to relax and prepare for your journey in a stress-free environment.
By sticking to your original plan, you’ll ensure a smoother travel experience, just in case those departure times get “undelayed” like mine did!
